OCTOBER NEWSLETTER

Sep 27
4 min read

October at DMA has arrived with excellent timing, a dramatic flair, and just enough mischief to keep everyone alert. Between Holiday Orders, Monster Mash, Costume Week, and Black Belt Blackout classes, the month is packed with reasons to mark the calendar now rather than trust future-you to remember later.

Here is everything families need to know!

Holiday Orders are officially open

Holiday Orders are now open, and this year’s catalog brings crisp new options for students, families, and anyone who enjoys gift-giving with a side of planning stealth.

The deadline to place pre-orders is October 30. There will be no late orders, and there will not be extra inventory available at the school after the order closes. If something catches your eye, please order it before the deadline.

This year’s Holiday Catalog includes items at up to 25% off, with tax and shipping included. That makes the catalog especially useful for families planning ahead for birthdays, holidays, student rewards, or a well-earned wardrobe refresh.

Two new designs are joining the lineup this year:

  • 2026 Hoodie

  • 2026 Embroidered Puffer Coat

Catalogs will be passed out this week, so keep an eye out for them. Samples will also begin arriving over the next couple of weeks and will be placed near the front desk.

How to place your order before October 30

Orders may be placed in three ways. Use whichever option is easiest:

Please order by October 30. After that, the catalog closes, the bulk order moves forward, and the elves, also known as our very real shipping process, get to work.

Since this is a bulk order, all items will be shipped to DMA. Shipping is expected to take about 2 to 3 weeks. Once everything arrives, DMA will schedule a pick-up date for parents to collect their items.

We try to schedule pick-up on a Friday or Saturday whenever possible. That timing helps families who are planning to keep items tucked away as gifts for students. A little secrecy is sometimes required in the noble art of holiday giving.

Monster Mash is almost full

October would not be complete without something delightfully spooky, and Monster Mash parents' night out is nearly here.

The party takes place on October 23 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. Students will enjoy Halloween-themed festivities, a Halloween movie, pizza, and snacks. This year's movie will be Scooby Doo 2 Monsters Unleashed. It is a festive evening designed for fun, laughter, and just enough fright to keep the popcorn interesting.

This event is already 75% full, so families who plan to attend should reserve a spot soon. Monster Mash is one of those events that fills quickly for good reason! At DMA, we work hard, and we play hard.

Costume Week runs October 26 through October 29

From October 26 through October 29, students are welcome to wear costumes to class all week. This is always a favorite tradition, and it brings an extra spark to the training floor. We do ask that students please leave accessories at home.

Costumes should allow students to move safely and comfortably. Martial arts classes involve kicks, stances, drills, and plenty of motion. Capes, masks, swords, wands, bulky props, and loose accessories may look excellent in the driveway, but they do not always behave well on the mat.

A good costume for class should be:

  • Easy to move in

  • Safe for training

  • Free of props or loose accessories

  • Comfortable enough for a full class

Creative costumes are welcome. Anything that turns a front kick into a logistical puzzle should probably stay home.

Black Belt Blackout brings the glow

All October long, DMA is turning up the intensity with Black Belt Blackout month. Every black belt class is blacked out, and neon lights illuminate the workouts.

The effect is sharp, focused, and unmistakably October. Students get to train in an atmosphere that feels special without losing the discipline and structure of class. It is the same hard work, same standards, same attention to detail, only with the lights lowered and the energy raised.

Black Belt Blackout gives students a chance to experience their training with a fresh sense of occasion. Footwork feels faster. Kicks look crisper. Focus becomes visible in a room lit by neon. It is theatrical, yes, but still rooted in the real work of martial arts: control, technique, discipline, and effort.

Plan now and enjoy the month

October at DMA is bright, busy, and wonderfully full. Holiday Orders are open now, Monster Mash is nearly maxed out, Costume Week is coming, and Black Belt Blackout is already lighting up the floor.

The most time-sensitive item is the Holiday Catalog. If you are interested in any apparel or gifts, please place your order by October 30 through the app on our website or with Mrs. Yu at DMA. Once the deadline passes, the order closes.

Plan ahead, enjoy the festivities, and let October do what it does best: arrive with style, energy, and just the right amount of delightful chaos.
